5th Grade Reflections – Students
Outgoing 5th grade students reflect on their time at Village
Allison: My six years at Village has been AWESOME! I never want to leave (but I have to go to Middle School :-). Starting from the teacher’s to the school in general the school is wonderful! I remember on the first day of school here, I wasn’t exactly super excited for it. But towards the end of the day you meet great teachers and friends. One of the things I find that I like the most is the field trips. In first grade you go to Pizza My Heart, and in fifth grade you go to NASA. But in every grade you get to go on even more field trips! Village also lets the fifth/fourth grader’s fund raise, for science camp. I am very excited though (a little) for Middle School but will always miss Village.
Brady: My name is Brady. I like food, MLP:FIM but not EG because the humans look terrible, and video games. I will miss all my friends because they will go to different schools. It is sad, but at least I know how to keep in touch with them. Fourth graders should remember to get all their friend’s emails or share a chat document on google drive after 5th grade so they don’t lose their friends. You still have to leave village though, even though it is STOOKY! My favorite things were the Sacramento trip because there was note passing on the bus and it was hilarious. I also liked Walden West but I missed family so it wasn’t the best part of village school. Village was the best school EVER even though I have only gone to school at 2 schools, but that doesn’t matter. Hopefully middle school will match Village’s awesomeness but Village is too stooky, so it is unlikely
Catherine: Village has always been my dream school, all of the kind people, all of of the learning and the teachers, this school is just amazing. Over the 6 years I have been at village, I think that fifth grade has definitely been the most fun, although I am not looking forward to leaving! I’ve made lots of new friends, and learned lots of important lessons, and just had so much fun while doing it! Something the fourth graders should know is, the pacers test is not fun. One thing that I remember that was super fun over the years, is first grade kid town! Kid town, was basically a place where you got fake money, and bought a bunch of treats, and toys! School has gone by so fast, and I really can’t believe that it was six years ago that I first started this amazing trip at Village school!
Ellie: My name is Ellie. I’m ten years old and have been at Village for six years. I will miss the awesome and supportive community the most out of everything about Village. I felt like I learned more than reading, writing and math. I learned how to model the MNMS, not only at school, but in my everyday life. My advice for the fourth graders is, “When you go to Walden West, cherish every moment. You will have to leave sooner than you expect.” I am really looking forward to going to DCS (Discovery Charter School). I heard that it is just like Village! Plus, my mom’s teaching there now!

Isabella: I had an amazing time at village school! Something I will always remember about Village school is every first day of school for every grade. I can still remember that in first grade I would go on the monkey bars, in second I would play on the field, in third I would walk and talk, in fourth I would do basketball or gymnastics, and in fifth I would laugh with my friends or read! I just can’t believe how fast the years went by, it feels like yesterday I was in first grade on those monkey bars! I just wish I could press replay and go back in time!
Jack: I had a great time at Village. The first day of school in Gina and Lori’s kindergarten class was kind of nerve racking. I’m sure it was for everyone but I knew a few people so it was fine. After a while I made many new friends. Then the rest of the year went by very fast.
In first grade we were learning more academic things instead of learning how to treat others and stuff like that. I was in Sandy and Gina’s class. My favorite part of first grade was Kid Town which is basically a bunch of stores. You got fake money and then you got to buy stuff like toys, ice cream, and mini pizzas. You were also the one that sells things too. In second grade my teacher was Mr. Chris. At the end of every day you got to shoot hoops to be dismissed and if you missed you had to answer a math problem before you left.
My favorite part of third grade in Ms. Roberta’s class was the class store. You got paid for doing your class job and then you got to buy stuff. Some jobs you got paid more than others. The highest amount of fake money you could make was $20. I saved most of the fake money I earned until the end of the year. That is when they had the best things in the store. In fourth grade I had Ms. Sherry. She knows a lot about nature. We went to the outdoor classroom many times that year. Now she works at Walden West.
This year I am in Ms. Talia’s class. My favorite part of this year was Walden West. Ms. Sherry/Raven was a field instructor though I didn’t have her. I was in the turtle cabin. The people in my cabin besides Ezra, Raiff, and I were kind of messy, so we got last showers twice. I had no food waste. Every day there were one or two people that wasted a lot. The best part of Walden West is when you go home because you’re exhausted from all the fun things you do. Now there are only a few weeks of school at Village left so I’m going to enjoy them.
James: My name is James and I’m in fifth grade at village school. The thing I will miss most about village school is my friends. At Village School in addition to learning how to read, write, add, and subtract it taught me how to be sociable. Some advice for the fourth graders going into fifth grade: be afraid. My favorite memory at village school was when we put our handprints on the school wall.
Jaxon U.: My village experience was great! I entered village in first grade and that day I met my very first friend from Village, Sawyer. Here is how I met him, I was walking into class trying to find my desk with my mom and dad. When I found it I sat down and said good-bye to my parents. I sat in my desk doing nothing for a moment then I saw Sawyer drawing snakes across from me. I decided to draw snakes too. A few minutes went by and then Sawyer asked me what type of snake I was drawing. I did not know any types of snakes then so I just said “a random snake”. After that we just became friends. My favorite year at Village was probably my 2nd grade year. My class name was the Toasty Marshmallows and my teacher was Mr. Chis. That year we got to shoot mini basketballs in class, I got to pick Mr. Chris’ March Madness bracket with Sawyer. We created the Summer Olympics and my creation for the medals got picked to use. When it was somebody’s birthday Mr. Chris would push you around in a chair well the class sung to you. There was a lot of funny moments that year, and we got introduced to Sumdog that year. My 2nd grade year was definitely the best. Village is a great school and I really don’t want to leave but I have to.

Jet: Hi, my name is Jet. I am 11 turning twelve on June 14. I have been at Village for 7 years and I have liked it here. When I leave I will miss my friends, teachers, and recess the most. After all these years I have learned how to solve problems, make good choices and model respect. From Ms. Jill, Ms. Roberta and Ms.Gina, also Ms. Yolan and Mr. Chris and finally Ms. Michele. When I leave village I leave you with good advice for the 4th graders: be good in school and be nice and you will get a good job. But when I go to middle school you guys and girls will miss me, but I will make new friends in middle school.

Julia: My 6 years at Village have gone by really fast. They were an amazing time of my life. I had the most amazing teachers. I had Lori and Gina for Kindergarten, Gina and Sandy for first grade, Elizabeth for second grade, Aisling for third grade and Michele for both fourth and fifth grade. I would like to say thank you to all of the teachers that helped me learn great new things. My advice for this years fourth graders is to enjoy the time with no fitness testing. In middle school, I am most looking forward to learning french as an elective. I think it will be a cool experience for me. The two best memories of Village for me are Walden West and Kid Town. Kid town was in 1st grade. It was really fun because people would sell stuff like we had Frozen Yogurt, Pizza and a toy store. Walden West was just awesome. I actually met up with my two preschool best friends. We slept in cabins and went on really cool hikes. All in all I had a really great time at Walden West and at Village.
Kai: I love Village. It is a great school. It has so many different amazing things. I wish I could stay at Village another 2 years. I love the friends I have made. Every teacher I’ve had at Village has inspired me. I am going to middle school. I wish I could stay at Village.
Kaila: Hi, this is Kaila. I am eleven. I’ve loved every day being at Village. I’m really sad I have to leave but happy that the middle school is where most of my friends are going too. I love to draw and sometimes I like to read. I had Ms. Jolan for kindergarten, Ms. Shannon for first grade, Ms. Elizabeth for second grade, Ms. Roberta for third grade and Ms. Michele for a fourth grade and Ms. Michele again for a fifth grade. This year has been the best each year for me. I wish I could be here forever.

Luke: I remember Village School for all of it’s field trips. I think that my favorite field trip was NASA. When we went to NASA we got to go in the “Space Station” where we got to do tasks that they would do on the real Space Station. Then we went to a dome where they projected a movie about going to mars. After that, we went to a spinny thing where we spun around trying to throw balls to each other, that simulated shooting a rover to a planet. One of the other field trips was the recycling center, where we learned how to recycle and we got to see how the recycling process worked. Overall, my favorite thing about Village is the field trips.
Matthew: Village was a great environment because the teachers were very helpful and kind. It was also great because of my friends and the fun games we played at school. Lastly, I loved the events and get togethers, because they got everyone together as a community. Over the years I had Ms. Lori, Ms. Gina & Ms. Sandy, Ms. Elizabeth, Ms. Aisling and Ms. Jill for two years. They have all been fabulous teachers for me. In middle school I’m looking forward to electives because I can pick something that suits me. I really enjoyed Walden West as a 5th grader at Village. I recommend 4th graders to stand up for yourself and help others. Overall, I will miss Village deeply and will never forget the great times I had here at Village.
Melissa: As a fifth grader I looked forward to Walden West because it is science camp. To me it is the best science camp. Ms. Sherry likes the environment to be protected by us – so don’t go around smashing a plant or chasing the geese!
Michael: My six years at Village have been good. Some things I like to do are seeing my friends, meeting new friends, Walden West, PE, art and the community. Personally waking up in the morning is the hardest part of the day. The one thing that made my year fun was science camp. Science camp was fun because of our cabin mates and are cabin leader were nice. We got to do outside activities and learn about nature. My highlight of my whole experience was either Walden West or the field trips. The thing I will miss most is my close friends.
Mikaela: Hi! This is Mikaela and I love to read, write, and play soccer. My six years at Village have been outstanding. I was lucky to have Gina and Lori for kindergarten, Sandy and Gina for first grade, Elizabeth for second grade, Roberta for third grade, and Jill for fourth and fifth grade. One of the most memorable memories at Village was Walden West. Walden West is a science camp where we stay in cabins and hike and learn about nature. It was a great way to become closer to my classmates. One of my favorite field trips was in first grade when we went to the Semifreddi’s factory and got fresh baguettes. My other favorite field trip was this year when we went to a “Black Violin” concert at the new Stanford theatre. These six years at Village have been amazing.
Mimi: My name is Varattaya (Mimi), my favorite color is Aqua and my favorite animal is a cat. My favorite book series is Warriors by Erin Hunter. All the teachers I’ve had are Ms. Jolan (Kinder), Ms. Shannon (First), Mr. Chris (Second), Ms. Ashling (Third), Ms. Michele (Fourth), and Ms. Jill (Fifth). I love Village because they teach you how to deal with bullying. For the fourth graders there going into fifth grade and will be the oldest so they are probably nervous. I’m looking forward to many things in middle school including more Walden West! I’ll miss my BFFL, Ellie, a lot because we’re going to different middle schools. The Staff here have been very nice and empathetic to me and everyone else.

Reece: All my years here been amazing. I came here in second grade and it’s been probably the best school I’ve been to. I have a lot of amazing and nice friends. The other kids are still fun and nice. The teacher’s help you through pretty much all of your problems. Whether it’s a math problem or a bully. We have had a lot of amazing field trips. Some are cogswell college, NASA, Sacramento and much more. We also had an amazing science camp. We went to walden west and we had an astronomy night, a night hike, a jeopardy night and campfire night. We also have an amazing library and we have the privilege to use laptops. All in all this was probably the best school I’ve been to.
Ryan: My six years at village have gone by so fast and I had a wonderful time here. All of the kindergarteners and incoming kindergarteners will have a good six years here at Village. I really enjoyed Village and all of the stuff they taught me. I’ve gone on some amazing field trips and I really liked when we went to nasa. My most favorite part of fifth grade was science camp. I really loved all of the instructors and cabin leaders. I also really liked P.E, we played football, soccer, basketball, and baseball. For all kids here at Village that are not in fifth grade, science camp is really fun and I think all of the kids in kindergarten, first, second, third, or fourth grade will really enjoy science camp and the rest of their years at Village School.

I really liked going to Sacramento to see the state capitol building and many more cool things. My teachers were awesome. I had Gina, Lori, Sandy, Elizabeth, Roberta and Ms. Michele. They are all very nice and will help guide you throughout your time at Village. I also really enjoyed the help from all the parents.

Sawyer: The number one thing I will always remember from Village School is the Village Camping Trip, and Walden West. The teachers were always the best and are always nice to everyone. The community was also equally awesome. What I liked about the camping trip was that I could hang out with my friends all day and ride my bike around the camp. At Walden West we got to do a lot of hiking and games in the mountains with everybody. This was one of the best years at Village School.
Sean: Village is an awesome place where you get to do hands on learning. Village is probably the first of many steps in my life and my first stepping stone was a big one. Sadly I’m going to be leaving Village soon. I’m really going to miss Village, my fiends and my teachers. I feel sad but I am also happy that I will go to a new school and meet new people. So I’m going to enjoy the last few weeks and have fun at village.
Shane: Hi I am shane and I am eleven years old. I have been in village since kindergarten and am now in 5th grade. All these years I have learned many things and many life lessons that have taught me to be who I am to this day. Some of my many hobbies are biking, running, soccer, video games, game designing and 3D designing. In my many years to come I have no set path for my journey. This is just the beginning. Although if I had to choose to pick a job it would be either engineer, scientist or maybe pro soccer player. The people responsible for all my learning are truly the teachers, not only the ones I had but all the teachers of this school. Also the staff of this school and the whole community of village are the best and most supportive of all. This is most likely the best school I’ll ever go to. Every person at this school is the best community I could ever wish for. And I hope that the middle school I go to next year will be just as good as village school
Sienna: I know I will never forget about my time at Village. I was at Village School for 6 years (kindergarten – 5th grade). I have loved every moment of it! Sadly, I can only write so much. I still remember the day my dad dropped me off at kindergarten the first day of school. Now I’m going to be in middle school! It’s crazy! I’ve had favorite things to do at recess since kindergarten. In kindergarten I did the monkey bars, 1st grade still monkey bars, 2nd grade walking on the field, 3rd grade just talking, 4th grade my friend Isabella/Bella came into my life and we started laughing together, and in 5th grade I read or go on the field and talk with Bella. My favorite part about Village is definitely the teachers. These are my teachers from kindergarten to 5th grade. Kinder Ms. Jolan, 1st grade Ms. Shannon, 2nd grade Mr. Chris, 3rd grade Ms. Aline and Asling, 4th grade Ms. Michele, and 5th grade Ms. Michele, again. I also love all the programs we do; Girls on the run, centers, halloween carnival, and more! Village is a unique school and it only happens to you once. Do enjoy it while it lasts. I loved my time at Village and I hope you do too.

Zoe G.: Village has been my favorite school and I bet will always be. I’ll come and visit over the years to see what’s happening like new teachers, changes in the school, more classrooms & more to come. I hope many people will come to this school and for the school to become bigger. I loved all these past 5 years but my favorite is 5th grade. I got to meet new friends and we became closer to one another. I also became good friends with the 4th graders which now are one of my favorite people. If only I could’ve stayed longer that would have been great.
