The Cute Cupcakes Report
The Cute Cupcakes have been learning about the 5 W’s (Who, What, When, Where and Why) of journalistic writing. Using their newfound skills, they report on the most salient happenings at Village School…
The Story of Our Butterflies
By Dominic, George, Emilia, Evan Logan and Lilah
In April, the Cute Cupcakes kept butterflies in a butterfly cage because we have never seen them before and wanted to learn their future and take care of them. They spun cocoons; we had never seen that before, but now we have. First, it’s a caterpillar. Then, it turns into a cocoon. Then, it becomes a butterfly. Then, it lays a butterfly egg and the whole thing starts again. That’s called a life cycle. All animals go through metamorphosis; they change. Even we also go through metamorphosis — we become big people. We had 10 caterpillars and, in a few weeks, they turned into 9 butterflies. One died. We released the butterflies on the playground when their wings were strong, because the playground is close to the garden and the butterflies can easily fly there to get pollen.
The Fun Run
By Mackenzie, Madeline, Lucy, Naol, Nikolina and Shotaro
In April, the whole Village school ran on the field. It was called the Run for Fun. We drank water. There were two tables. We ran in a circle. There were signs for where each class was supposed to go. We had red bracelets and the parents did tally marks for how many laps we did. We did all this for fun and for exercise, so we could grow and be strong. Otherwise, we could get sick if we don’t get healthy. Some of us ran 50 laps or more! After we did the Fun Run, we got popsicles. They were yummy! The Girls on the Run set this up for the whole Village. Thank you!
Cute Cupcakes at the Museum
By Athena, Cody, Ayako, Amelia, Artella, and Andrew
The Cute Cupcakes Kindergarteners went to the California Science Academy. It was so fun. We saw butterflies and penguins. Some of the butterflies landed on people. It was cool! We went to see animals because we haven’t seen them in a long time. We learned how creatures live. There was a leopard stingray. It was cool. We went on Friday, April 28th in cars to see stuff we’ve never seen before.
Character Day at Village
By Yui, Vivienne, Victoria, Tudor, Timothy and Soren
On May 5, the whole Village School (whoever wanted to) dressed up as characters. Some people didn’t. Characters are interesting. A character is a person in a show, movie or book. There was a Golden Ninja, Rainbow Dash, Alice in Wonderland, Batman, Batgirl, Iron Man, a Jedi and Harry Potter. Our Teacher Lori dressed up as a superhero. The reason we did this to make people interested in characters and in reading books (or shows or movies). It was fun because we got to wear costumes.
