Meet the President
By Carol H., PTA Board President and Parent of Village Alum Anna, Fearless Falcon Luke and Powerful Puppies Mia
I am honored to serve as Village School PTA President this year. Working together, the other board members and I help direct parent resources to best support our teachers, and therefore our students. The Village community is amazingly giving and supportive and I am so proud to be a part of it.
As an introduction to those who do not yet know me, this is my 9th year at Village school. My daughter Mia is in Ms. Roberta’s 3rd grade class and my son Luke is a 5th grader in Ms. Talia’s 4/5 class. My oldest daughter Anna is a Village Alum and is now an 8th grader at Rolling Hills.
I love how Village has changed since Anna started kindergarten, while staying true to its founding mission of educating the whole child. Each year new families bring new skills and knowledge to our school. Through everyone’s contributions we are able to improve, change, and evolve our school in ways that are important to the current families.
For instance, this year we will have our 4th Annual Maker’s Faire, which started from the passion of an entrepreneurial mom. And our Camping Committee hosted the largest school camping trip yet, in part because of the location change they made last year. Several years ago, the Halloween Carnival and Silent Auction were one event, but a previous Board took a risk and separated them to create two successful, large fundraisers.
Our families support so many programs and activities that we are always looking for ways to use our volunteers more effectively. We are continuing the implementation of a new membership database, SchoolSpeak, and are also streamlining processes like Driver Approvals. Our community remains vibrant and relevant because we are constantly looking for ways to improve, try new ideas, and to “work smarter, not harder.” I look forward to seeing how the Village Community continues to evolve!
One thing that hasn’t changed at Village is the support we give to our teachers in the classroom. I love being in the classroom and out on yard duty because I get to personally connect with my kids’ classmates. It is also exciting to see how the kids grow and mature each year. And they remind me that I am important to them when they pass by at recess and simply say, “Hi Carol!”
When I leave Village after my work shift or a social event, I am so grateful that my kids and I are a part of this community. I hope that you feel the same.
