The Question of Screen Time

As The Village School Learning Community further explores the topic of screen time I think it is most important that we shift our discussion from how much to what kind of screen time and we must also be asking ourselves about the quality of screen time we are engaged in. Are we spending “passive, creative, or interactive” time in front of a device?  To ensure that students engage in appropriate use of media they must be taught to move from consuming media to producing media and when we combine this with teaching; critical thinking, problem solving and social responsibility our students can and will create content that adds value. The use of media requires that we find the right balance of technology use. To do so requires that we educate others and ourselves on the importance of the appropriate use of all media.
